Not a comment but a small helper that will do the job automaticly (if
you have 'at' command, i.e unices systems):

% at 15:35utc may 04
/usr/lib/sendmail -f <YOUR_EMAIL_ADDRESS> address@hidden <<END
subscribe lynx-dev
end
END
^D
%

ps: You can paste this to you shell environment starting from 'at' until
    the line 'END', you have to type ^D (ctrl+d) by hand.
    '-f <YOUR_EMAIL_ADDRESS>' is to make sure that it comes from you.
    '15:35' because of day-light-saving. After sending this, check the
    last line; it should read 'job ... at Mon May  4 ..:35:00 1998';
    hour will be different depending on the time zone.
