Nothing? No statusline msg? Nada?
Sounds like the ^V is getting eaten up by your shell. Outside of a
TEXTAREA, does ^V switch you between SortaSGML and TagSoup parsing
modes? If it isn't doing that, you may need to stty your terminal
to not recognize ^V as a "quoting char" as it is sometimes used in
some systems/shells (it *may* be a shell setting, rather than stty
that controls that behavior ... I don't recall offhand).
Other than that, I presume that you do have an editor defined, and
that you're not running -anonymous, or with -restrictions=editor,
or some such.
If you still have problems, turn trace on (^T) just before entering
the TEXTAREA, hit ^Ve, and post the first ~25 lines or so of the
trace, and we'll see if you're getting to the edit-calling routine
at all.
Wasn't someone else having trouble using ^V a couple weeks ago, and
if my memory isn't failing me, how did you resolve the problem ...?
