GNU Coding standards recommend en_US, not en_UK, and I had already caught the 
bulk of these spelling errors, and others, on branch-1_4 within the past month; 
I just haven't had time to port them to head yet.  But you did find a couple I 
had missed.  I'll go ahead and apply the relevant fixes to both branches.

Gary, don't feel too bad about seeing everything look wrong - my wife is from 
the UK, and she doesn't like my US spelling either :)
