So it does, sorry.  C:\using\windows dulls\My Brain
There remains a minor problem: the shares web page shows
  z:\test       
used    free    % free  FS
70.29G  149.08G  67%    ntfs
but
  //hostname/share/test
used    free    % free  FS
---     ---     ---     not supported

for the same Samba share.
