Thanks for the problem report. I have changed the code in the CVS. Can you please check out monit from CVS following these instructions for anonymous check out, http://savannah.nongnu.org/cvs/?group=monit and see if it works now?

Hi !

Monit can't monitor correctly a mail server which sends multi-line
banners.

For example:

Connected to glorfindel.
Escape character is '^]'.
220-InterScan Version 3.81-Build_1022 $Date: 12/19/2003 17:51:0017$:
Ready
220 -All ESMTP mail transactions are being logged
QUIT
221 glorfindel closing connection
Connection closed by foreign host.

Monit does not catch correctly the last status (normally 221).

The way I read RFC 821 suggests that multi-line "greeting" reply banners
are explicitly allowed (p. 4.2 SMTP REPLIES). However, the 4.2 SMTP
Replies section shows us a more restrictive ABNF grammar description.

In practice, all smtp clients accept mulit-line "greeting" reply
banners. Monit should do the same, I think.

I Hope it can help you to progress Monit.

Séb.
