This might help....

Once monit hangs after being started by inittab for the first time, if I kill the process (killall -9 monit) and let inittab start it back up, it never finishes starting. However, if I remove the inittab entry, and start the process manually using the same command, it works fine.

AMD 64 is just the name that "stuck" because at the time Intels 64 bit
processors were Itaniums, and the AMD's were the first 64 bit chips with 32
bit code compatibility.
