I think I've found the problem, on some of our servers the /var/run/monit.pid is not being created.
so when I'm running commands it can't find the daemon.
any ideas why?

I see this message in verbose mode logs:
debug : monit: pidfile '/var/run/monit.pid' does not exist

even when I set the pid using "set pidfile /var/run/monit.pid"
the pid isnt being created...

I'm starting up monit from the inittab as:
mo:2345:respawn:/usr/local/bin/monit -v -Ic /etc/monitrc

Thanks, Josh
