It did.  Weird, there's nothing in the changes from
nvm.levitte.select-heads-of or nvm.debian that even comes close to
the netsync or hmac code!

I can imagine three possibilities:

 - someone just snuck some sort of self-hiding trojan thing in, *or*
 - your compiler or system libraries made the crypto break
   temporarily
 - your ISP installed a router with a lousy MTU which started
   mangling packets (or some other amusing real-world benign-intent
   corruption scenario)

I'd like to believe one of the latter cases. If the mtn you're using is on a private branch I can't look much closer, though.
