For the record: I'm not sure whether 'make distcheck' succeeds,
because the 'suspend' test failed - it does this about 75% of the time
for me :-(

Right, indeed that is the whole point.

I believe the PCRE syntax is a superset of the boost::regex syntax,
since the latter was based on an older version of Perl regexes.  (The
differences mostly affect people doing Very Clever Things with
regexes, that probably no one will do in an ignore file.  One hopes.)
