There were several softwares at Nosh's NSF workshop that I was involved 
in - see http://www.ncsa.uiuc.edu/Conferences/SNAC/ (or just google for
snac nosh !)

They're on the resources page.  I haven't played with them - at the
event they were demoed in an open laptop demo session :-)

This links is now on the Wiki too.
