My Xubuntu doesn't show processes on the ttys either, but when I
go there, with Ctrl+Alt+F2, for example, the process gets started:

 3571 tty1     Ss+    0:00 /sbin/agetty -o -p -- \u --noclear tty1 linux
13492 tty2     Ss+    0:00 /sbin/agetty -o -p -- \u --noclear tty2 linux
31016 tty3     Ss+    0:00 /sbin/agetty -o -p -- \u --noclear tty3 linux

I don't see any differences in the Delete key mapping.
