Details:
Hi,
I am trying to install general package as local user (I think it is for any
package not just general).
I unpacked source tree, and compile everything in the relevant
sub-directories, I also run to the same mistakes if I ask for 'pkg install
general-1.2.1.tar.gz'. But for now I discuss the case of unpacked tree.
If I run package installation request as non super user I see that pkg.m
tries to install everything into the system wide directories. If I run pkg
with -local switch I see the same attempt. See the output below.
=============================================
octave:1> pkg -local -verbose install general
make: Entering directory `/tmp/general/src'
make: Nothing to be done for `all'.
make: Leaving directory `/tmp/general/src'
copyfile /tmp/general/src/SHA1.oct /tmp/general/src/__exit__.oct
/tmp/general/src/fload.oct /tmp/general/src/fsave.oct
/tmp/general/src/mark_for_deletion.oct /tmp/general/src/packfields.oct
/tmp/general/src/unpackfields.oct /tmp/general/inst/i486-pc-linux-gnu-api-v37
couldn't create installation directory
/mnt/beam_archive/usr/share/octave/packages/3.2/general-1.2.1 : Permission
denied
error: called from `pkg>copy_files' in file
/usr/share/octave/3.2.4/m/pkg/pkg.m near line 1431, column 7

error: /usr/share/octave/3.2.4/m/pkg/pkg.m at line 287, column 7
===============================================
This buggy behavior magically resolves, if I copy pkg.m from the system
directory to the current one, and rerun the command.
Also notice that pkg resolves symlinks: /usr -> /mnt/beam_archive/usr. Is it
intended?
