Follow-up Comment #6, bug #31641 (project octave):

I uploaded on

http://matzeri.altervista.org/works/octave/

the compressed strace for both fltk case that crashes 
and gnuplot case that works. 

For what I can see, for gnuplot the sequence is

octave > gnuplot > gs > octave (that exit)

while for fltk

octave  > gs (unable to return and exit)

Any suggestion how to further investigate ?
