Follow-up Comment #12, bug #35021 (project octave):

Never mind about the Octave call to dsyrk.  I was able to write a tester and
reproduce this error and it has been confirmed as a bug in the parallel ATLAS
library.  

Thank you for helping me narrow this down to dsyrk.
