Follow-up Comment #1:
I think this is the same bug as #34631. Just leave this one open until
confirmed.
FWIW, I think this may actually related to fontconfig or so as after a certain
number of plots those font error messages appear, but plots are still made
(w/o text).
FLTK, Qt (w. Michael's MSVC version) and gnuplot are all affected. FLTK and Qt
go on making plots, gnuplot hangs Octave.
But all three render Octave unstable after this error is hit.
