Follow-up Comment #3, bug #37416 (project octave): I used the Debian synaptic package manager to download the precompiled linux binaries. I usually run it from a launcher which just closes the terminal its opened in without any messaging but I tried running it directly from a bash shell which causes octave to exit with an error message: """ octave:1> inv(hilb(100)) panic: Illegal instruction -- stopping myself... Illegal instruction """ libatlas3-base = 3.8.4-9 libblas3 = 1.2.20110419-5 Im running the debian wheezy (testing distribution) and both of those packages came from the testing repositories.
