Follow-up Comment #13, bug #47775 (project octave):
This sounded familiar and did come up before, see bug #46065.
I forgot both C and C++ compilers need to agree, and gcc 4.8 did not default
to C11 like gcc 5 does. Try with CC="gcc -std=gnu11" and CXX="g++
-std=gnu++11".
