This has been reported before, and is still not a bug in the control package
or in Octave. See bug #41520.

This is not a bug in the control package, but a bug in your system
configuration (or the configuration of the Octave packaging that you have used
from MacPorts).

If you look into how the control package is built and how Octave stores the
FLIBS variable, it is probably working correctly. What probably happened is
that your Octave package was built or installed using one version of GCC, that
was then uninstalled or upgraded, and the path is no longer valid.

On Debian the compiler reports the GCC version directory as just "5" instead
of "5.4.0", this makes upgrading between minor versions much smoother.

You should work with MacPorts to improve this situation, either by adding a
harder dependency against the exact version of GCC that Octave was compiled
against, or by fixing the GCC paths to be less specific.
