Follow-up Comment #18, bug #50268 (project octave):
ok. sounds like enough evidence to point to it being an XP incompatibility.
Is there a fix that can be included in Octave? A set of workarounds that can
be provided in documentation to users on XP? Or do we simply have to provide a
'certain functions are no longer compatible with XP' message?
