Follow-up Comment #30, bug #50479 (project octave): The test for depth_bits and stencil_bits was a clumsy attempt to check if the OSMesa stuff is working. The code before the test tries to set depth and stencil bits to 16 and 0 and if the readed values matches I thought this would be an indication that something goes wrong... After all, if you disable the test (comment the lines) is osmesa working for you? You wrote that GL_DEPTH_BITS is "54" on your system which looks to me that this is just a value read from the wrong memory address due to incompatible libraried.
