Thanks for letting me know these 'qt' environments don't play well together. I removed the Ubuntu 'qt' (which impacts kde) - I'll see what happens. I use Jupyter (iPython) with an Octave kernel. The Anaconda stack (iPython) has it's own version of 'qt'.
