With or without patch, I get an error when trying to execute the sample code.
With patch:
octave:1> graphics_toolkit gnuplot
octave:2> bar (1, [3; 4], 'grouped')
error: wrong type argument 'matrix'
error: set: argument 0 must be a property name
error: called from
__bar__>bars at line 338 column 7
__bar__ at line 199 column 12
bar at line 118 column 16
This is on the development branch (392afc740749), gnuplot 5.0.3, GNUTERM=qt.
