Follow-up Comment #1:

I think this is an accident that it ever worked before.  By setting the
'paperposition' property you are specifying exactly how you want the plot to
appear on the page.  For an A4 page in landscape orientation with centimeter
units, the papersize is

    papersize =

       29.700   21.000

The first dimensions is width and the second dimension is height.

However, you are setting the paperposition to

[1 1.5 19 27]

and the syntax is for this property is

[ left_edge, bottom_edge, width, height]

so you are requesting a portrait orientation where the width is 19 and the
height is 27.  By simply reversing these I get a reasonable output.

set (gcf, "paperposition", [1 1.5 27 19])
