Follow-up Comment #10, bug #53046 (project octave):

Go back to a revision prior to your changeset and do

x = rand  (10,20,30)
openvar x

Then open the variable editor window and you should see the same output as you
see in the terminal window.

Note that the variable editor window updates if you change the value at the
command line.

At first I thought this was a pointless feature, but then I realized that it
would be useful for viewing objects during debugging, even if you couldn't
edit them.
