Follow-up Comment #23, bug #53046 (project octave):

Funny - if after the steps described below I close the undocked parent VE
pane, the relict child pane inherits all properties & 'power" from its parent
except title bar and toolbars and subsequently behaves as any other window. 
I expected it to disappear together with its parent.
