Follow-up Comment #8, bug #53459 (project octave): (progress report) I started looking into this. It seems we're bitten by the order in which attributes appear in nodes in file xl/workbook.xml.rels in the .xlsx archive (always a risk when parsing XML with regexps). The code as it stands in __OCT_spsh_open__ has the order wrong for the file in question.
