Follow-up Comment #1, bug #53663 (project octave): I have tested this on Ubuntu with Unity and KDE and on both systems the shortcuts are working as expected, i.e.: * Ctrl-F opens the search dialog * Ctrl-G (or whatever is configured for this action) repeats the search even if the search dialog does not has focus or is closed.
