Follow-up Comment #23, bug #53893 (project octave):

That's good.  Consider going with that then.  I think that amounts to a Ubuntu
Unity bug of a back-to-back change in floating, i.e.:


    setFloating (false);
    setFloating (true);


That shouldn't cause a problem.  Whether it is Qt or the window manager that
is responsible, I don't know and I'm not too concerned with that bug. 
Instead, it's QTBUG-44813; once that one is fixed, all the inelegant
flickering and so on goes away along with the work-around.
