Follow-up Comment #6, bug #54086 (project octave):

It's also used in the settings dialog if the terminal/fontName setting is not
present, which is what I was testing (deleting the settings but keeping the
file).

There are also similar default fonts for the editor styles if the settings are
deleted from the settings file. I think these may come from some QScintilla
internal defaults.

If I remove the settings file entirely, then the default Monospace font seems
to be filled in correctly for me on Debian. I'm not sure which minimum version
of Qt that requires, but I'm on Qt 5.10 at the moment.
