Follow-up Comment #15:

The fix was actually quite simple.  Octave now checks whether there are more
than 15 digits to display and if there are then it uses the floating point
format rather than integer format.  All of the BIST tests now pass.  I have
marked them as passing so if they start failing again it will show up as a
regression.  For all of the above, see this cset
