Details:
I have a local proxy which I can use at 127.0.0.1 and port 5000. However, if
I use the GUI's Edit/Preferences menu and then set the Network Preferences to
use an HttpProxy of 127.0.0.1, port 5001 everything still works. I test by
using News/Community News.
On the other hand, if I set an https proxy directly by using
setenv ('https_proxy', '127.0.0.1:5001')
then the Community News fails to load.
Incidentally, because Community News seems to be cached, you need to quit
Octave between any changes to these network variables.
Is it possible that the GUI is setting an HTTP proxy when it needs to be
setting an HTTPS proxy? Or are the Network Preferences simply not used at
all?
