Follow-up Comment #149, bug #54235 (project octave): I think you should start by extracting the 5.5 src code from the tarball again (don't want to rely on distclean target). I'm going to say that the directory where you untar that is gccsrc. From the directory that contains gccsrc, make a new directory gccbuild.
