Follow-up Comment #8, bug #54373 (project octave):

Rik, in comment #4 you typed double quotes and I copied the line verbatim into
Matlab.
Using single quotes I do get [0 0 1]

So matlab's new string class clobbers up a few things I guess.

Your example in comment #6 returns 1.
