Follow-up Comment #21, bug #54100 (project octave):

OK.  What I'll do is add the overflow check for the FIXME (I know it is being
caught) and still leave the FIXME comment in place with reference to bug
reports, in particular the one I created here for octave_idx_type overflow
check:

That's a bigger issue.  I suppose there is no convenient way of having a macro
or other object implement the overflow check for this fread because it is kind
of doing its own memory allocation and management of smaller hunks.
