Follow-up Comment #1, bug #54607 (project octave):
Testing whether this is safe should be easy for anyone who can compile Octave
and run it on a modern KDE Plasma 5 desktop.
It does look to me like Qt 5 no longer installs its own signal handler for
SIGCHLD in the QProcess implementation, so this may indeed be safe now for Qt
5.
Actually Qt 5.5 or newer, since that was the first released version with the
overhauled the QProcess implementation in this commit:
