Follow-up Comment #2, bug #54885 (project octave):

I also observe something similar (and it might be the same issue that the one
reported in bug #52840): If I click on the "Open file" button in the editor,
the file selector window opens and becomes unresponsive. After several
minutes, it is available and usable again (and this until the end of the
Octave session). It seems to be related to mounted NFS shares, see attached
screenshot: it's only when the figure responds again that the two NFS shares I
have are listed.
