Follow-up Comment #17, bug #55481 (project octave):

To make sure that we are talking about the same thing in demo light 5: Are you
referring to the outline of the specular reflex (the bright white spot)?
I'd say that outline is shaped slightly differently because Matlab seems to
use a different algorithm to generate the faces for "sphere" (better visible
in "demo reducepatch"). That leads to the faces being inclined slightly
differently in Octave and in Matlab which in turn leads to slightly different
lighting effects.
