Follow-up Comment #13, bug #55529 (project octave):

@Dmitri: Yes, it looks like epstool cropping utility does not do well will
huge amounts of possibly corrupted triangles, so either eliminating bad
triangles ("axis auto") or not using epstool ("-loose") solves the issue.
