Follow-up Comment #16, bug #47680 (project octave):

Why would "this" be interpreted as a function name in this context?  Do you
mean as a "command-style" function?

What if you write


x = this . addRequired @ inputParser (name, validator);


?  It shouldn't be possible for it to be recognized as command syntax on the
RHS of an assignment operator.
