Oh. Well, yeah; I did have octave-forge installed with 2.1.46. So that explains the difference. I've tried install octave-forge with 2.1.57 but I'm getting a lot of errors in both the most recent tar ball and CVS version. So I may have put a NOINSTALL in one of the directories that contains the new random number generator. I'll see if I can get that installed and check if the original problem that motivated me to update in there first place is still there.
