Either synchronize the files in emacs/ with those of GNU Emacs or remove
them completely from the tarball. The problem with the later option is that
users of XEmacs will be out of luck. To the best of my knowledge,
octave-mod and friends are not available as an Xemacs package [1]. Anyone
knows about this?

Also, from the point of view of the Debian distribution, it would be good if
the pre-release tarball could be available for, say, two weks before the
final 3.0 release, such that it can have a chance of entering the testing
distribution and consequently get checked by the Debian/Ubuntu user base.
