Yes, it does, but "open source" is Apple's preferred terminology. Note
how they never say "free software". Why? Because people could be
confused that you could get gcc or gdb without paying for it? Surely
that's not why they prefer to call it "open source". You're not really
unaware of this terminological issue and why "open source" doesn't
appear anywhere in Octave's manual or website, are you?

Okay. I suppose there's no way to avoid Xcode then. What a pity. Last
time I had to dea with Xcode myself, I was not happy at all, and I
wouldn't wish having to navigate Apple's developer website and
licenses upon anyone. But if this last bit is now avoidable, perhaps
it's not as horrible anymore.
