Build successfully in Debian stable (squeeze). When running make check
though, I had the following failures:

  src/DLD-FUNCTIONS/pinv.cc .............................. PASS    7/8    FAIL 1
...
  scripts/general/quadl.m ................................ PASS    4/5    FAIL 1
...
Summary:

  PASS  10144
  FAIL      2

There were 2 expected failures (see fntests.log for details).

Others have already reported failure with quadl so I've just paste
what fntests shows about the failure in pinvc here

However, after 'make install', and running 3.5.90 I ran test
'path_to_pinv.cc' and it didn't fail. So I ran 'make check' one more
time and this time I only get the failure in quadl.

The 2 expected failures were in "error" and "residue".
