I have built OpenEXR 2.2 on Windows 7 64bit using Visual Studio 2012 and 2013 on multiple machines using the CMake build system. I haven't tried newer versions but I don't see why they would be a problem. For the build settings I disabled 'BUILD_SHARED_LIBS', 'NAMESPACE_VERSIONING', and 'USE_ZLIB_WINAPI'. All the other open source projects which I use that require OpenEXR usually like to link statically, so those settings work well for me.

I have been following Larry's continued effort to get Travis CI and AppVeyor (for Windows building) working for OIIO and I think maybe the OpenEXR project could use some official automated building on various platforms so he could source that for his project?

Not exactly what you are asking for but here is a script that works, distilled out of my mkvfx script. The fact that it is this complex suggests that the official cmake script could use a little love and attention.
