[Openexr-user] After compiling?

Hi,

I'm somewhat of a newbie/hobbist when it comes to Linux - so I hope I don't 
offend with my question.

I'm running RedHat 8.0, downloaded and configured OpenEXR - I did this by 
following the instructions in the INSTALL file.  It seems to have all gone 
well ... so my question is now what?

I also d/led the sample images and foolishly thinking that after compiling 
and making I was done, attempted to open the OpenEXR images in Gimp with no 
success.

Am I missing a horribly simple step that will have me shunned from the 
community for life?
