Subject: [Pan-users] Pan 0.13.0.92 on Mandrake 9.0 and dependencies (also relevant for 8.x)

I've just tried a rather minimal installation with X of Mandrake 9.0
on an old harddisk, including the Pan 0.13 RPM from Mandrake, which is
compiled without spell checking. Then I upgraded Pan to 0.13.0.92.
This is what I installed to get it working, without any compiling:

- libstdc++3.1-3.1.1-1mdk.i586.rpm from Mandrake 9.0 beta2.
  This provides libstdc++.so.4 for gtkspell. Unfortunately this RPM
  (or others that provide this library) isn't on the Mandrake mirrors
  anymore. BTW, I use the same RPM for Mandrake 8.2.

- gtkspell-2.0.2-1gmdk.i586.rpm from
  http://pan.rebelbase.com/download/extras/gtkspell/MANDRAKE_81/

- The US English aspell dictionary (aspell-en-0.33.7.1-7mdk), plus
  aspell, libaspell10, pspell and libpspell4 from Mandrake 9.0.

- The Pan 0.13.0.92 RPM for Mandrake 8.2 at pan.rebelbase.com.
  As long as libgtk+-x11-2.0_0 was installed (required for the
  original Pan 0.13 from Mandrake 9.0), I used rpm with --nodeps to
  override the gtk+2.0 dependency.

This made Pan work, including spell checking.

Please note that I didn't need to install gtk+2.0 nor libgtk+2.0_0.

I also tried using gtkspell-2.0.2 from
http://pan.rebelbase.com/download/extras/gtkspell/OTHERS/
in order to avoid the obsolete libstdc++ library. I then had to
install libstdc++2.10-2.96-0.80mdk.i586.rpm from Mandrake 9.0
and install gtkspell with "--nodeps" to circumvent the GTK2 naming
mismatch, but anyway Pan crashed when trying to compose a message.

Since neither Mandrake 8.1, 8.2 nor 9.0 seem to provide
libstdc++.so.4, I suggest making the libstdc++3.1 RPM available
for download on http://pan.rebelbase.com/download/extras/.
(Although a rebuilt gtkspell should be much smaller.)

This also implies that RPMs for Mandrake should be built with a
dependency to libgtk+-x11-2.0_0 instead of gtk+2.0.
