I don't believe SMTP with authentication has yet been sufficiently 
standardized for most apps to include that functionality, yet.  However, most 
ISPs impliment a work around, such that if you check mail in (POP your mail), 
you should be authenticated to post from that IP, for a matter of 10-30 
minutes.  Alternatively, you may have to cut/paste into your mailer.  
Finally, depending on the authent mechanism, you may be able to establish an 
SSL or SSH type connection, and tunnel the SMTP transaction thru it.  I've 
seen mention of this, but I really haven't the foggiest as to how it is done, 
manually, at this point, only that it apparently can be, due to the mentions 
I've seen.
