first of all thanks for the reply. 
secondly I apologize for the html, using yahoo mail for this.....
I will play around with the score and see what I can get.

on a different topic, in the old pan, while looking at the headers the window's 
title contained the total message count for the group and the number of 
articles selected. any way to get the info back in this version ?
