[Pan-users] Pan or server problem?

From: Rinaldi J. Montessi
Subject: [Pan-users] Pan or server problem?
Date: Wed, 11 Apr 2007 02:22:08 -0400
User-agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9a4pre) Gecko/20070406 SeaMonkey/1.5a

Pan tells me there is no connections and I cannot download group articles. However:

address@hidden:~$ netstat -ta | grep bell
tcp 0 0 Senior.Envision:46754 bignews.bellsouth.:nntp TIME_WAIT tcp 0 0 Senior.Envision:46755 bignews.bellsouth.:nntp TIME_WAIT tcp 0 0 Senior.Envision:46753 bignews.bellsouth.:nntp TIME_WAIT tcp 0 0 Senior.Envision:46750 bignews.bellsouth.:nntp TIME_WAIT tcp 0 0 Senior.Envision:46751 bignews.bellsouth.:nntp TIME_WAIT tcp 0 0 Senior.Envision:46748 bignews.bellsouth.:nntp TIME_WAIT tcp 0 0 Senior.Envision:46749 bignews.bellsouth.:nntp TIME_WAIT tcp 0 0 Senior.Envision:46746 bignews.bellsouth.:nntp TIME_WAIT tcp 0 0 Senior.Envision:46747 bignews.bellsouth.:nntp TIME_WAIT tcp 0 0 Senior.Envision:46745 bignews.bellsouth.:nntp TIME_WAIT

This is strange on a couple of levels. 1. I show 10 connections; and 2. I have the max set to 4 for the server.

If I shut down Pan and wait for the connections to die off, then restart, I get a repeat performance.

Further:
