I honestly don't know.  The cache thing and leaving it run then coming 
back for a second session, has been enough for me, so I've not tried the 
local news server option.

One thing you'll probably want if you do run a local news server is to 
set pan's cache smaller again.  Someone posted that 1 MB is the smallest 
pan will take -- it can't be disabled entirely.
